Inverted roof

Listed below is a general specification using a two-layer, torcha applied system. Axter can provide written detailed specifications to suit any building on demand.

Usage Products
Deck Concrete, laid to achieve a smooth deck finish, to the correct falls, which can be 0°, and be dry before commencing installation of the waterproofing layers.
Primer Prime deck/screed with Axter's VERNIS ANTAC (see brochure) quick drying primer and allow to dry.
Base layer Loose lay Axter's THERMECRAN perforated base layer.
Under layer Torch down Axter's ALPAFLORE TS FMP modified bitumen under layer. Alternatively the under layer could be loose laid or spot bonded.
Top layer Fully bond by torching to the top of the under layer Axter's ALPAFLORE PY AR self finished capping sheet.
Details Both layers should be taken up the upstand and should finish at least 150 mm above finished soil level.
Rainwater outlets Rainwater outlet flanges should be encapsulated between the under layer and the top layer. It is advisable to install a paving slab or come other inspection method above all outlets so that they can be checked and regularly cleaned of detritus.
Thermal Insulation Loose lay STYRODUR XPS CFC-free extruded polystyrene, to a thickness to achieve required "U"-value. Axter can advise upon request. Insulation should be set back from roof edges by at least 5 mm or covered with an AXTER EDGE GRATING.
Filter layer 1 Loose lay Axter's rot proof FILTER LAYER.
Then either:
Reservoir board Loose lay Axter's BAC CANALIS closely butted to ensure adequate support for the soil.
Filter layer 2 Loose lay Axter's rot proof FILTER LAYER. If the membrane installer is not installing the growing medium and plants it is advised that the landscape gardener or horticultural specialist installs the BAC CANALIS and FILTER LAYERS.
Growing medium and plants These will be designed and specified by the landscape gardener or horticultural specialist to meet the needs of the construction. The thickness of the growing medium will be dictated by the type of plants to be used but in general is likely to be > 6 cm. Axter can give advice upon request.

In general specifications should follow the guidelines given in:

British Standard Code of Practice BS 6229:2003, Flat roofs with continuously supported coverings.

British Standard Code of Practice BS 8217:2004, Flexible bitumen sheet roofing.

Specifications are given for roof slopes< 5°. Apply to Axter for further information.
