Axter GENERAL FIX®

Innovative non-penetrating anchoring device for PV amorphous modules, crystalline panels and other roof mounted equipment.

Axter has recently introduced GENERAL FIX®, a patented, lightweight fastening system for securing roof mounted equipment without penetration of the waterproofing system. GENERAL FIX® is compatible with all roof types and is designed for new build and refurbishment projects.

Specifically developed as an anchorage device for crystalline photovoltaic panels and amorphous 'thin film' modules, GENERAL FIX® provides a lightweight, secure solution eliminating the need for expensive, heavy array support systems that can compromise waterproofing and structural integrity.

GENERAL FIX® is based on the Velcro® Hook and Loop principle and tolerates heavy-duty stress in a few square centimetres. It is easy to install and anchors all types of plant securely without ballast while preserving the waterproofing and allowing removal of plant for maintenance.

Axter provides a complete design solution for the GENERAL FIX® system to ensure correct implementation into the built environment. Computer software using wind test data allows accurate size and positioning calculations taking into account building location, height, local topography and plant to be fastened.

Axter structural waterproofing on Canada Water Library

After a rigorous selection procedure architects CZWG approved Axter Ltd's WILOTEKT-PLUS structural waterproofing system for their inverted pyramid at Canada Water. Main contractor ISG Jackson's Senior Contracts Manager Len Smith said "The Axter system was chosen because of the intensity of work that needs to take place on the roof. It is a hot applied system so you can work on the roof with other trades without worrying about damage. Also the product doesn't leak and comes with a 30 year guarantee". Axter assisted ISG Jackson to value engineer the project with the roof product specification, helping save an estimated £1 million of construction costs.

Environmental Management Standard

Axter takes the environmental impact of its operations very seriously and following on from the production of Environment and Health Statements for its roofing systems has implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) at its bituminous membrane products factory.

This is now audited to the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Standard. EMS provides a systematic way of managing the organisation's environmental affairs enabling Axter to address the immediate and long-term impacts of its products, services and processes on the environment. By constantly reviewing and revising the system the procedure focuses on continual improvement.

Amongst many benefits this will lead to material savings, reduced energy consumption, lower waste handling and disposal costs and reduced environmental liability.

Management team visits new subsidiary

Axter Directors John Medlock and Phil Wilcox-Moore recently made a two-day visit to the newly created Axter subsidiary, Axter CZ, in Prague, Czech Republic. Of the emerging democracies in central and eastern Europe, the Czech Republic has one of the most developed industrialized economies. Axter hopes to profit from the fact that the Czech Republic is one of the most stable and prosperous of the post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. Already the Company has delivered over 180,000 m² of Colétanche products for methane and radon protection beneath a large housing development. The main purpose of the visit was to meet with employees of A.W.A.L, a consultancy firm associated with Axter CZ, who are able to provide engineering support to Axter Ltd.

Lamb cooked in bitumen

In November 2010 Axter hosted a lunch with a difference at the Hale Village project (Block SE) in Tottenham.

A French tradition in the construction industry is to celebrate the completion of a project with a Gigot Bitume (lamb cooked in hot bitumen). Being part of a French construction group, Axter decided to introduce the custom to one of their UK sites and invited guests from Willmott Dixon main contractors and roofing contractor DSM Roofing Ltd to join them. The legs of lamb were wrapped and cooked in the bitumen boilers.

Axter 's Wilotekt-Plus structural waterproofing and extensive green roof systems have been installed on various blocks at Hale Village, a major sustainable, mixed-use regeneration scheme by BDP Architects.

ALPAL 3000 S refurbishment

With its innovative 3mm thickness ALPAL® 3000 S is ideal for refurbishment works. It is installed directly over self-protected existing waterproofing without primer* or partial bond membrane. The pre-printed under surface film shows where it is to be torched to give a partial bond on to a clean existing waterproofing substrate.

ALPAL® 3000 S can also be partially bonded to primed concrete and fully bonded to an existing mastic asphalt roof, plywood and other substrates.

On new works, ALPAL® 3000 S can be installed by torching directly on to uncoated mineral fibre insulation, particularly on metal decks.

One single operation is sufficient to achieve a high quality waterproofing system with considerable cost benefits due to the savings in installation time and handling.

  • 3mm thick, lightweight roll, easy to handle (39kg; 8m x 1m)
  • can be applied direct on to uncoated insulation or existing waterproofing
  • cost and installation time savings – no primer* or partial bond membrane needed
  • no costly disposal of existing roof membranes
  • smooth, crease-free installation without risk of ponding water
  • excellent bonding due to ALPA® binder
  • performance characteristics comparable to maximum FIT rating F5I5T4
  • 15 year guarantee

*priming only necessary on concrete
