Existing roof
|
Overlay using the existing waterproofing as a vapour control layer with thermal insulation and an auto adhesive underlayer. (Axter can provide written detailed specifications to suit any building on demand).
| Usage | Products |
| Existing waterproofing | Ensure that the existing waterproofing and insulation (if installed) are dry and well attached to the supporting deck. Cut and seal any blisters or loosely attached layers of membrane and remove membrane from all details. In the case of mastic asphalt smooth all undulations and remove asphalt from all details. |
| Primer | Prime existing waterproofing with Axter's VERNIS ANTAC (see brochure) quick drying primer and allow to dry. |
| Thermal insulation | Fully bond Axter's HYTHERM ADH CFC-free surfaced insulation board to the primed surface. Thickness will be determined by 'U'-value requirements. Axter can advise on required thickness and bonding method. |
| Under layer | Fully bond to the insulation Axter's HYRANGER SPOT S3 V, an SBS modified bitumen auto-adhesive base layer. Care must be taken to ensure sealing of side and end laps. |
| Top layer | Fully bond to the surface of the underlayer Axter's EXCEL HR S, Alpa-mix modified bitumen membrane, colour to choice. Side and end laps to be carefully torch bonded with a 2mm visible bitumen bead. |
| Details | At the base of all upstands a reinforcement layer of Axter's HYRANGER 35 PY angle strip 250mm girth should be installed centrally in the angle and bonded to both flat and vertical surface. The top layer should then be taken up the upstand. |
| Rainwater outlets, etc. | Flanges of rainwater outlets should be encapsulated between the under layer and the top layer. |
