EXCEL/SPOT system

Listed below is a general specification using a two-layer polymeric waterproofing system. (Axter can provide written detailed specifications to suit any building on demand)

Usage Products
Deck Timber boarding, plywood or OSB boards as required, all installed as per relevant British Standard or industry Code of Practice. All timber and boards must be securely fastened to the substrate.
Primer Prime deck with Axter's VERNIS ANTAC (see brochure) quick drying primer and allow to dry. (Not required for timber boarding where the v.c.l is to be attached by nailing.)
Vapour Control Layer High humidity building - Fully bond, by torching, to the concrete deck Axter's VAP AL aluminium cored SBS modified bitumen vapour control layer.

Low humidity building - Fully bond to the deck Axter's HYRANGER SPOT S3 V, an SBS modified bitumen auto-adhesive vapour control layer.

(On timber boarding lay Axter's HYRANGER SPOT S3 V on both low and high humidity buildings. In High humidity buildings a second layer of Axter's VAP AL should then be installed by fully bonding it to the HYRANGER SPOT S3 V)

Thermal insulation Fully bond Axter's HYTHERM ADH CFC-free surfaced insulation board to the v.c.l. Thickness will be determined by 'U'-value requirements. Axter can advise on required thickness and bonding method.
Under layer Fully bond to the insulation Axter's HYRANGER SPOT S3 V, an SBS modified bitumen auto-adhesive base layer. Care must be taken to ensure sealing of side and end laps by torching the top of the membrane.
Top layer Fully bond by torching to the surface of the under layer Axter's EXCEL HR S, Alpa-mix modified bitumen membrane, colour to choice. Side and end laps to be carefully torch bonded with a 2mm bitumen visible bead.
Details At the base of all upstands a reinforcement layer of Axter's HYRANGER 35 PY angle strip 250mm girth should be installed centrally in the angle and bonded to both flat and vertical surface. The top layer should then be taken up the upstand.
Rainwater outlets, etc Flanges of rainwater outlets should be encapsulated between the under layer and the top layer.

In general specifications should follow the guidelines given in:

British Standard Code of Practice BS 6229:2003, Flat roofs with continuously supported coverings.

British Standard Code of Practice BS 8217:2004, Flexible bitumen sheet roofing.

Specifications are given for roof slopes< 5°. Additional mechanical fastening will be required for higher roof slopes. Apply to Axter for further information.

Axter advises that an AXTERSHIELD INSTALLER, who has specialist knowledge of Axter's systems, installs the specification given above and from whom extended guarantees can be obtained.

Specifications listed are for guidance only and Axter cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions. It is the specifier's responsibility to ensure that the specifications are suitable for the requirements of his construction.
