Listed below is a general specification using a mechanically fastened single layer polymeric membrane with no visible fixings on the underside of the deck. The HYPERFIX FIXING comprises three components; a screw mechanism to fasten the metal deck to the supporting steelwork, a threaded shaft the length of which is determined by the insulation thickness and a washer and fixing plate to which the waterproofing is attached. (Axter can provide written detailed specifications to suit any building on demand).
| Usage | Products |
| Metal deck | The metal deck should be specially designed for the purpose and supplied and installed in accordance with British Standards or other industry Codes of Practice. It must be securely fastened with the screw mechanism of the HYPERFIX fastening to the supporting steel work with stitched side laps. Side and end laps should be sealed so that the metal deck can act as a vapour control layer. |
| Threaded shaft | Loosely screw the threaded shaft to the screw mechanism ensuring that the anti-turn spring is in place. |
| Thermal insulation | Loose lay rock/mineral wool insulation1 such as Rockwool's DUOROCK to a thickness determined by 'U'-value requirements. Axter can advise on required thickness. |
| Fixing washer | Screw the washer and fixing plate to the threaded screw and tighten taking care not to over tighten the washer so that it lies flat and is not dished. |
| Top layer | Roll out and secure to the top of the fixing washers Axter's EXCEL STRUCTURAL polymeric membrane, colour to choice, ensuring that side and end laps are securely sealed with a min 2mm visible bead. |
| Details | At the base of all upstands a reinforcement layer of Axter's EXCEL RENFORT 250mm wide taping strip should be installed centrally in the angle. This should be mechanically fastened to the deck and bonded to the vertical surface. The top layer should then be taken up the upstand. |
| Rainwater outlets | A 1m x 1m soaker of Axter's EXCEL RENFORT membrane must be installed prior to the installation of the EXCEL STRUCTURAL layer and the flange of the rainwater outlet should be encapsulated between the two layers. |
| Gutters | A base layer of Axter's EXCEL RENFORT must be mechanically fastened to the deck prior to the installation of the EXCEL STRUCTURAL. |
Note:
1/ Other types of insulation can be used; Axter can supply further information upon demand.
